State report: College of Charleston tops Citadel in men’s tennis, 5-2
MOUNT PLEASANT — The College of Charleston men’s tennis team won its eighth match in a row by defeating Southern Conference rival The Citadel, 5-2, at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point on Wednesday.
The Cougars (10-6, 5-2 SoCon) won all three doubles matches against the Bulldogs (7-11, 0-8).
Sebastian Lopez won at No. 2 singles and teamed with Billy Kenny for a doubles victory. Charlie Ghriskey, Alon Faiman and Zack Lewis also won at singles for Charleston.
David Orces and Peter Bleach had the two singles wins for the Bulldogs.
The Cougars are at Elon on Saturday, while the Bulldogs are at Chattanooga on Sunday.
In women’s tennis, the Cougars won, 4-3, over Furman to improve to 13-8 and 5-1 in the SoCon.

Jennifer Giles threw a three-hit shutout and Stephanie Sbardella hit a three-run homer as Charleston Southern routed Canisius, 13-0, in the first game of a softball doubleheader at CSU softball field. Canisius (13-12) took the second game, 12-2.
In the opener, Giles (3-22) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out two. Marci Christian connected on her 10th home run of the season for the Bucs (7-32), who host Liberty in a doubleheader Saturday.
College of Charleston freshman Roshani Glover, a former standout at Summerville High School, was named Southern Conference women’s outdoor field athlete of the week. Glover jumped 39 feet, 7 inches, in the triple jump over the weekend at the Raleigh Relays, which puts her in first place on the SoCon ranking list. Glover won her section of the triple jump and finished ninth overall.
