A former Wando High School student is undergoing rehabilitation after a serious bike accident.
Holy City Brewing is sponsoring a benefit to help pay Anthony Macchio-Young’s medical bills at the Charleston pizzeria where he used to work.
The benefit is set for 2 to 7 p.m. April 13 at Steel City Pizza and Triangle Char & Bar at 1440 Ben Sawyer Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. A number of items have been donated for a silent auction. There will also be live music.
Macchio-Young graduated from Wando in 2008 and worked at Giuseppe’s, now Steel City Pizza. He graduated from Full Sail University in Winterpark, Fla., with a degree in graphic arts and moved to San Mateo, Calif., in January. Shortly after arriving there, he was seriously injured in a bicycle accident and taken to Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto with significant head injuries.
His parents, Kim Young and Bill Macchio, live in Mount Pleasant. His mother has remained at her son’s side, and his father has been traveling back and forth.
Gayle Price, a family friend, set up a trust fund to help pay for Macchio-Young’s medical bills. His father has been maintaining a journal on the web site.
