Former Clemson and Berkeley High star Andre Ellington improves stock with strong workout

CLEMSON - After being unable to fully compete at the NFL Combine last month or during Clemson’s pro day due to a leg injury, former Clemson and Berkeley High star Andre Ellington answered some questions by running a 4.51 second 40-yard dash Friday during a personal workout at Clemson.

Ellington ran a 4.61 second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine where he tweaked a hamstring. He missed the Senior Bowl with a hamstring injury.

The lightning-quick back logged back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Clemson but is projected as a third-round pick by NFLDraftscout.com due to durability concerns.

A number of NFL scouts and coaches were on hand for the workout Friday.

“There was a little bit of doubt from teams,” Ellington told reporters, “but to just go out there and perform at not 100 percent and still stand out pretty good I feel like I did (help myself).”

Ellington said New England had a private workout with he and DeAndre Hopkins last week.

Ellington said he is unsure of where he’ll watch the draft. He does not have a great feel of where he’ll be selected.

“I just have to sit and wait now that’s I’ll have control of,” Ellington said, “I’ll just wait and see who calls my name on draft day.”
