Curtis Bostic, Mark Sanford try to seal the deal

Former Gov. Mark Sanford and former Charleston County Councilman Curtis Bostic hit the campaign trail again today to try to seal the deal on why they should be the Republican nominee for the 1st congressional district.

Sanford’s schedule began with an appearance at Summerville’s Waffle House, and he is set to drop by the Rutledge Cab Company restaurant at 12:15 p.m. He also is visiting a James Island auto shop at 520 Folly Road at 3 p.m.

Bostic also is making appearances, and his campaign was buoyed by endorsements from more than 40 Lowcountry clergy. Rev. Greg Smith, pastor at Grace on the Ashley Church, in Charleston said many clergy consider social and moral issues first.

“Many local clergy are taking a stand and saying that issues like the sanctity of marriage, personal morality, honesty, and integrity are still virtues they expect in their representatives,” he said.

Both Bostic and Sanford debated at Porter Gaud School Thursday night, and both are set to appear together live at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow on WCBD-TV. Morning anchor Brad Franko will moderate.

Republicans will go to the polls Tuesday to pick between Sanford and Bostic. The winner faces Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch on May 7.
