A Charleston man was jailed on Friday after police say he threatened his wife with a knife and tried to cut her underwear off of her body in an attempt to force her into having sex with him.
Donald Oswald Sheppard, Jr., 49, of Ashe Street, in Charleston, is charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature in connection with the incident, police said.
Sheppard’s 49-year-old wife called police on Friday complaining that her husband punched her in the face several times and assaulted her.
The woman told police that Sheppard was intoxicated and grew angry at her wearing underwear while lying in bed.
Sheppard pulled out a knife, the woman told police, and attempted to cut away her underwear so that he could have sex with her. He then placed the knife to her chest to intimidate her, police said.
The woman repeatedly told Sheppard that she didn’t want to have sex throughout the ordeal, police said.
Sheppard was arrested and held at the Charleston County jail.
