Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies are investing an alleged sexual relationship between a West Ashley High School teacher and a student.

Charleston County detectives were notified of an alleged relationship between a 26-year-old teacher and an 18-year-old student, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said. The relationship has been going on for months and appears to be consensual, he said.

The teacher has not been charged and the investigation is ongoing, Brady said.

Charleston County School District Spokesman Jason Sakran said the teacher is no longer employed at the school. He said no further details will be released because the situation is a personnel matter.
