A six-story student housing development is being proposed for a vacant 2.4-acre piece of land at the corner of Morrison Drive and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge off-ramp on the Charleston peninsula.
Developers have submitted design plans for the housing development at 930 Morrison Drive to the city’s Board of Architectural Review. The panel is scheduled to take action this afternoon on conceptual plans for the development. Today’s agenda describes the development as “mixed use,” but submitted design plans highlight the brick and glass structure as “student housing.”
This marks the latest development plan for the property planned years ago to be a mixed used development containing condominiums. The 150,000-square-foot complex was planned to contain three primary buildings, each with four floors atop ground-level parking. Plans also called for a 300-space parking lot on state-owned land under the bridge.
Recently-submitted plans call for an A-shaped development with two courtyards, a pool, and parking under the bridge.
The property is owned by UTCF, LLC. Charleston attorney Charles Patrick, a managing member for the group, said Tuesday evening that there could be a possible sale of the property. Patrick declined to confirm or comment on intent for the space.
