The infant who was ejected from a pickup truck during a crash Monday afternoon in North Charleston has died, authorities said.
The wreck was reported about 4:10 p.m. on Spruill Avenue near Clement Avenue.
Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said a Chevrolet pickup was southbound when it sideswiped another vehicle. The pickup left the road, hit a utility pole and flipped.
“An infant inside of the pickup was ejected,” Pryor said in a statement.
The infant and the pickup’s driver, who had to be cut from the vehicle, were taken to Medical University Hospital, Pryor said. The child died tonight, he said.
The driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized after complaining of chest pains.
No one has been identified yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
