RICHARDSON COLUMN: Lowcountry new homes sales continue to grow
The increase in new homes sales is drawing more builders from outside the region.
The latest case in point: Ashton Woods Homes recently announced plans to build its first South Carolina homes in the Charleston region. The Atlanta-based firm didn't say which specific areas it plans to target. It has hired Kevin Wadley to lead its local acquisition efforts. Wadley previously was involved in acquisitions for other builders like Centex Homes.
Ashton Woods has projects in Atlanta, Houston, Orlando, Phoenix and Raleigh.
Carolina One New Homes is helping Tides market and sell unsold units in the prominent condominium development at the base of the Arthur Ravenel Bridge in Mount Pleasant.
It's part of the owner's campaign to move the 50 unsold condos it acquired at a foreclosure sale last year.
Prices have been cut about 35 percent from rates that in 2009 ranged from $600,000 to $3.9 million.
Of the 20 listed units, 14 were under contract and four were sold as of a week ago. The others will be released gradually.
