The College of Charleston women’s basketball team will play at Detroit on Sunday in the second round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational tournament. The game is set for 2 p.m.
Detroit, the No. 1 seed in the east region, knocked off No. 8 seed Belmont 71-68 Thursday night.
The Cougars (16-15), the No. 5 seed in the tournament, advanced to the second round by beating No. 4 seed Northern Kentucky 72-70 on Wednesday.
Center Latisha Harris leads the Cougars in scoring (12.9 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg). Guard Alyssa Frye is averaging 12.6 points per game, guard Afreyea Tolbert is scoring 9.7 points a game and forward Cathryn Hardy is averaging 7.7 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. Point guard Jillian Brown is averaging 6.4 assists a game.
Detroit, a member of the Horizon League, is 18-13 on the season and is led in scoring by Shareta Brown, who is averaging 20 points per game.
The Cougars are 3-1 overall in the WBI and last played in the tournament in the 2009-10 season, where they advanced to the final four.
