Cougars to play at Detroit on Sunday in Women’s Basketball Invitational

The College of Charleston women’s basketball team will play at Detroit on Sunday in the second round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational tournament. The game is set for 2 p.m.

Detroit, the No. 1 seed in the east region, knocked off No. 8 seed Belmont 71-68 Thursday night.

The Cougars (16-15), the No. 5 seed in the tournament, advanced to the second round by beating No. 4 seed Northern Kentucky 72-70 on Wednesday night.

Detroit, a member of the Horizon League, is 18-13 on the season and is led in scoring by Shareta Brown, who is averaging 20 points per game.

The Cougars are 3-1 overall in the WBI and last played in the tournament in the 2009-10 season, where they advanced to the final four.
