Armstrong paces Citadel baseball past Charleston Southern, 6-4

Hughston Armstrong drove in two runs and Zach Sherrill got the win in relief as The Citadel defeated crosstown rival Charleston Southernm, 6-4, in college baseball today at Riley Park.

The Bulldogs (15-9) and Bucs (8-15) will meet again at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at CSU.

Armstrong was 3 for 4 with a double, and Mason Davis had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 11 games for The Citadel. Davis, Bo Thompson, Johnathan Stokes and Calvin Orth also drove in runs for the Bulldogs.

Sherrill (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win. Starter Austin Pritcher went 5 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on seven hits.

Bobby Ison was 3 for 4 and drove in two runs for the Bucs. Starter Ryan Gunther (2-3) got the loss, working six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits.

The Citadel scored two runs in the fourth when Brett Bullard walked, stole second and scored on a double by Armstrong. He came in on a single by Davis.

Bullard singled and stole second again in the sixth, scoring on Armstrong’s single. The Citadel added single runs in the seventh and eighth.
