The College of Charleston women’s basketball team will face Northern Kentucky in the Women’s Basketball Invitational tournament at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bank of Kentucky Center in Highland Heights, Ky.

This will be the Cougars’ second appearance in the WBI and first time playing in the postseason since the 2009-10 season when they advanced to the final four of the WBI before losing to Appalachian State.

“We are very excited to be able to earn a spot in this postseason tournament,” said College of Charleston coach Natasha Adair, whose team is 15-15. “I’m proud of our team as we have worked very hard this season and we deserve the chance to continue our season.”

Northern Kentucky, located about seven miles outside of Cincinnati, is in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

This will be the Cougars’ first game against Northern Kentucky (15-12), which finished fourth in the Atlantic Sun.

The Cougars won 15 games for the fourth time in the last 15 years. After being picked 10th by the coaches in the Southern Conference preseason poll, the Cougars finished in fifth place and earned a bye in the conference tournament.

The Cougars are led by center Latisha Harris, who is averaging 12.9 points and 8.6 rebounds a game, and Alyssa Frye with 12.4 points per game.

The Norse are led by Kayla Thacker (11 ppg) and Tiara Hopper (10.7 ppg).
