College of Charleston will open the sand volleyball season at home this weekend in the CofC Sand Tournament at the Creekside Tennis and Swim Facility in Mount Pleasant.
The Cougars will host Alabama-Birmingham, Mercer and Georgia State in the three-day tournament that begins Friday.
College of Charleston, which is starting its second season of competition in sand volleyball, was picked seventh nationally in the AVCA preseason poll.
“This season, we have a better understanding of how everything works, and we are excited after our successful season last year,” head coach Jason Kepner said. “We have a lot of experience with this squad, and it’s been difficult to determine our pairs since we have so much depth. We are looking forward to a great weekend of sand volleyball.”
The Cougars return all but one player, Elyse Chubb, from last year’s squad, while adding indoor AVCA All-America honorable mention Darcy Dorton, indoor SoCon All-Freshman selection Melissa Morello and freshmen Kari Fidelholtz and Grace Rebarchak.
The Cougars faced Mercer in last year’s Charleston Tournament, defeating the Bears 5-0.
All matches are free and open to the public at the Creekside Facility.
