One of the nation’s last remaining MK1 River Patrol Boats used in the Vietnam War will get a face-lift thanks to a team of professionals who have partnered with Patriots Point to donate time, expertise and money to move, repair and repaint the vessel.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, volunteers will hoist the boat, which has been at the Mount Pleasant maritime museum since 1989, onto a trailer that will transport it to Pierside Boatworks in North Charleston.

The $30,000 month-long project involves several parties, including Vietnam War veterans, Allstate Crane, Interlux, Engineered Marine Coatings, Reg Brown, The Royal Touch Marine Services, West Marine, Lemmond’s Marine Transport and Pierside Boatworks.

The work was originally set to begin earlier this month but was delayed.
