In celebration of the first day of spring, Rita's Italian Ice at 4958 Centre Pointe Drive near Tanger Outlet Center in North Charleston will give each visitor a free ice in a limited edition cup on Wednesday.
With 60 flavors, it's the 21st year the company has offered free ice on the first day of spring. The North Charleston franchise is owned by Mark and Jennie Davis.

The Spinx Co. of Greenville now has its first Charleston area convenience store at 6899 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston. It features an automatic car wash, fresh hot food offer, fuel and other items.
The new 5,100-square-foot store is open 24 hours and features a full food service deli from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Founded in 1972, The Spinx Co. operates 69 convenience retail stores in South Carolina and North Carolina. Company officials hope the North Charleston store is the first of more to come to the region.
Petticoats restaurant announced two weeks ago it would return in March. The 68 Queen St. restaurant, which closed last year in downtown Charleston, will return Wednesday.
It will open at 10 a.m. with servings of pastry and free coffee and then begin serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Look for fresh salads and soups every day.
Shrimp and Grits Kids, a children's clothing store in the Old Village of Mount Pleasant, will move in May to a new store in Central Square off Watermark Road, also in Mount Pleasant.
The kids' shop has leased a 3,500-square-foot retail and warehouse space at 1260 Appling Drive, near Bowman Road and Hungryneck Boulevard.
The new space is being renovated. The existing shop at 121 Pitt St. will be rented.
A new Cactus Car Wash is being added next to Glasspro Pit Stop at 1800 U.S. Highway 17 across from Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. It will replace the existing Pit Stop car wash and will open in June. During construction, Glasspro's automotive service center will remain open.
Cactus operates several car wash facilities in the Southeast, including three others in the greater Charleston area.
