Polls will open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., as voters across the Lowcountry help political parties choose their nominees for the vacant 1st Congressional District seat.

The primaries cap a hectic three months of campaigning since former U.S. Rep. Tim Scott was tapped to fill the next two years of Jim DeMint Senate term.

There’s certainly potential for confusion: The state’s congressional lines are still new and complicated, and these primaries will be South Carolina’s first major election since its Voter ID law took effect.
