The South Carolina Bar Association has recognized a Charleston attorney for his pro bono work.
The association gave Jason Luck the 2013 Pro Bono Award for his legal work with those who can’t afford services of an attorney. Luck, an attorney with Seibels Law Firm, is a trial and appellate attorney.
In 2009, Luck defended a father in a custody case. The Family Court sided with the plaintiff in the case, which Luck appealed to the South Carolina Supreme Court in 2011.
In Oct. 2011, the Supreme Court reversed the decision and called for the reunion of the father and daughter in the case after four years of separation.
“Mr. Luck’s commitment to this case was exceptional,” said Beth Palmer, attorney with Rosen Rosen and Hagood law firm and Luck’s nominator. “He devoted more than 200 hours to the actions, the appeal of TPR and subsequent proceedings before the Family Court … with no hope of compensation.”
The S.C. Bar Pro Bono Award is presented annually to a lawyer or lawyers who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to volunteer legal services for the poor and disadvantaged.
