Moncks Corner man gets 20 years in shooting death
A Moncks Corner man accused of shooting a person to death in a car almost two years ago was sentenced to 20 years in prison this week.
Ricardo Mendoza, 30, was on trial in the death of Edwin Velasquez-Rodriguez, 32, also known as Omar Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was shot twice as he sat behind the wheel of a car on Fairground Road in Park City Mobile Home Park in Moncks Corner May 21, 2011.
A jury convicted Mendoza of manslaughter Wednesday, according to Berkeley County court records. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, minus credit for time served since he was arrested shortly after the killing. He will be released into the custody of immigration officials after he completes his sentence.
