SUMMERVILLE — Birds are coming to the nooks and crannies of this downtown.
A coalition of community groups is launching a “birds in residence” tourism promotion, planning to place 19 life-sized sculptures, and one mural addition, of birds seen in the Summerville area. The sculptures are to be set in somewhat out-of-the-way but visible spots in the shopping district around Hutchinson Square. The idea is to lead visitors on a tour of the district with a poem giving hints to find each sculpture’s location. It’s based on Greenville’s popular Mice on Main promotion.
The first piece, a barred owl, is expected to go up within two months.
