Wounded veterans to bike around Charleston Thursday
A group of about 30 Wounded Warriors, all veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, will embark on a bicycle tour around Charleston Thursday to raise community support and awareness of the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.
Participation in The Warrior Ride is free for service members, with expenses donated by local businesses including Tri-County Links and Holiday Inn Express in Moncks Corner.
The ride will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Waterfront Park in Mount Pleasant and go across the Ravenel Bridge to The Citadel, where cyclists will participate in a ceremony at 10 a.m. before proceeding to the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.
At 11:45 a.m., the Wounded Warriors will enjoy lunch at the VA Hospital, participate in a seminar for wounded warriors, then meet with wounded troops and veterans.
They will then bike back across the bridge to Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum, where at 3 p.m. they will be able to tour the museum for free.
At 6:30 p.m. the tour will conclude at the VFW Isle of Palms Post, where the cyclists will enjoy dinner and an opportunity to meet with other veterans.
Lowcountry residents are encouraged to show their support by watching the parade and cheering them along.
