The Academic Magnet boys’ team reinforced its No. 1 ranking in the latest state soccer poll, according to the state coaches association.

The Raptors posted a thrilling overtime victory over Bishop England to open the season. The defending state champs beat Summerville 1-0 the following night.

Meanwhile the Academic Magnet girls remain No.2 despite an impressive victory over the Bishop England girls.

Although the Raptors have an 8-0 commanding record over the Bishops in recent years, coach Anna Merriman knows the Bishops won’t concede to the Raptors.

“You have to be on your toes anytime you play them,” Merriman said. “They have been established for such a long time that you know they are capable of winning.”

The Hilton Head girls are No. 1 in Class AAA. Porter-Gaud is No. 1 in SCISA boys’ Class AAA while Northwood Academy is No. 1 in Class AA boys.
