Samford’s 14-8 victory snaps Citadel baseball’s 5-game win streak

Phillip Ervin went 3 for 4 and drive in four runs to lead Samford to a 14-8 win over The Citadel today in college baseball at Riley Park.

The loss snapped a five-game win streak for The Citadel (10-6), which won two of three from Samford (10-7, 1-2) to begin Southern Conference play.

Ervin hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and also had a single and a triple.

Christiaan Durdaller also homered and drove in three runs for Samford. The Citadel’s 15-hit attack was led by catcher Joe Jackson, who was 3 for 4 with three RBI. Tyler Griffin drove in two runs.

Reliever Sean Handlan (1-0) got the win for Samford. Citadel Starter Austin Mason (1-1) was tagged for six runs and eight hits in three innings for the loss.

The Citadel hosts Akron on Tuesday and Wednesday.
