Led by longtime mayor Keith Summey, North Charleston has 11 city employees that make six-figure salaries, The Post and Courier’s Salary Spotlight database shows. Summerville has one employee that takes home more than $100,000.
Summey ($148,905) and Ray Anderson ($133,413), the mayor’s longtime assistant, were the two highest paid North Charleston employees, according to salary records obtained under the S.C. Freedom of Information Act.
In Summerville, Charles Miller, director of public works, was the highest paid at $102,137.
Salary Spotlight is an ongoing project of The Post and Courier to look at government employee pay. State law requires agencies to disclose salaries of employees who make more than $50,000.
The data compiled by The Post and Courier does not include benefits and bonuses, which can significantly increase an employee’s pay. The Salary Spotlight tool currently includes pay for all state employees and will add other government agencies in the future. Visit www.postandcourier.com/salary to search for employees.
