Citadel slugs five home runs in 12-3 rout of Samford

Citadel first baseman Bo Thompson slugged three home runs and the Bulldogs totaled five homers in all in a 12-3 rout of Samford on Friday night at Riley Park.

The Bulldogs won their Southern Conference baseball opener to improve to 9-5 overall. Defending SoCon champ Samford is 9-6, 0-1 in the SoCon.

Thompson hit home runs in his first three at-bats after missing the last three games with an ankle injury and was 4 for 4 with five runs batted-in.

Calvin Orth and Drew DeKerlegand also homered for the Bulldogs; DeKerlegand drove in four runs.

Starting pitcher Austin Pritcher (3-0) worked 6 2/3 innings for the win.

The teams meet at 3:30 p.m. today.
