Rescue workers were at the scene of a fatal wreck on Interstate 26 near U.S. Highway 78 Saturday morning.

A man who was reportedly driving drunk and caused a fatal wreck at 9:15 this morning on Interstate 26 in North Charleston is facing felony charges, the S.C. Highway Patrol said.

Johnathan Michael Greene, 30, of Russelldale Avenue in North Charleston, was driving east on the interstate when he went off the road near the Highway 78 interchange, down an embankment, and hit a tree, according to the Highway Patrol.

A front-seat passenger, 29-year-old Haley Branham, was injured in the wreck and died about four hours later at Medical University Hospital, according the Charleston County Coroner’s Office. An infant and a 3-year-old, both of whom were in the back seat, were also taken to MUSC.

Greene has been charged with felony DUI involving death, felony DUI involving great bodily injury, and two counts of child endangerment. Police did not identify the children, the extent of their injuries, or any relationship they may have to Greene or Branham.
