Western Carolina downs Citadel, 76-61

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Western Carolina guard Trey Sumler scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Catamounts past the Citadel, 76-61, in the opening round of the Southern Conference tournament Friday night at the U.S. Cellular Center.

The Catamounts will face the College of Charleston Saturday night at 8:30 p.m., in the quarterfinals.

James Sinclair added 14 points and six rebounds for the Catamounts, who led 34-25 at halftime.

Citadel senior Mike Groselle and freshman guard Matt Van Scyoc each led the Citadel with 13 points each.
