Wreck stalling westbound traffic on I-26

S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle wreck westbound on Interstate 26 involving a State Transport vehicle.

The wreck happened shortly before 9 a.m. at the 219 mile marker, according to Highway Patrol. Injuries were reported.

The incident involved a State Transport vehicle, a sedan and a jeep, Charleston County Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said.

A sport utility vehicle driven by a Transport Officer was stopped with blue lights activated and its siren on while escorting an oversized load onto the interstate, Brady said.

A sedan slowed down while approaching the load, Brady said. That vehicle was then rear-ended by a jeep, he said.

The impact pushed the sedan into the Transport Officer’s vehicle, Brady said.

Two lanes of traffic were blocked as the scene was cleared, Brady said. All lanes are now back open, he said.

Paramedics transported the sedan’s driver to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Brady said.

The jeep’s driver, Craig Rogers, of Mount Pleasant, was cited for driving too fast for conditions, Brady said.
