Charleston Fire Department hires new emergency medical manager

The Charleston Fire Department has a new hire, one department leaders hope will continue to improve their ability to provide emergency medical services.

They hired Brett Huntley to fill the newly created position of Emergency Medical Services Program Manager. Huntley will be responsible for creating and managing a training program, serving as a liaison between the fire department’s program physician and Charleston and Berkeley counties emergency medical services, and compliance.

Huntley was selected by department leaders in December.

“Mr. Huntley’s role will help improve our consistency and quality as we deliver emergency first responder medical care,” said Deputy Chief of Operations John Tippett.

Huntley has 20 years of experience teaching paramedic, advanced EMT, basic EMT and first responder classes and has been a paramedic for 24 years, according to fire department officials. He also worked for five years in Saudi Arabia where he established and managed the EMS Education and Transport programs for the Saudi government, officials said.
