College of Charleston routs Charleston Southern, 15-1, in baseball

College of Charleston scored a season high in runs and Griffin Jones had a quality start as the Cougars pounded out a 15-1 victory over Charleston Southern at CSU Ballpark.

The win was the third straight for the Cougars (8-5), who swept the season series with Charleston Southern (6-7) by a combined margin of 28-6.

The Cougars scored runs in all but the second and ninth innings, highlighted by a five-run fourth and a three-run seventh.Every starter managed a hit and all nine either scored a run or had an RBI.

Jones (1-0) earned the win on his first start of the season, going into the seventh inning with just one unearned run allowed, scattering seven hits. Player Loving and Michael Hanzlik combined for five strikeouts in three innings of shutout relief. The Cougars continue to lead the Southern Conference with a 2.43 staff ERA.

CSU’s Andrew Tomasovich (0-2) took the loss.

Bradley Goodson was 3 for 3 with three runs scored, tying his career high, for the Cougars. Goodson also walked, was hit by a pitch twice and swiped two bases. Ben Boykin hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the eighth.

John Faircloth had two hits, including a double, and the only RBI for the Buccaneers.

Alex Pastorius went 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored for the Cougars.
