CLEMSON - Former Clemson receiver DeAndre Hopkins ran a 4.55 second 40-yard dash during Clemson’s pro day Thursday. The time was a slight improvement from the official 4.57 second 40 time he ran at the NFL Combine last month.

Hopkins and 11 other former Clemson players worked out before 47 NFL scouts from 31 NFL teams. Only the Chicago Bears were not represented.

After setting single-season team records with 82 catches for 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, the only reason Hopkins is not projected as a sure-fire first-round pick is because he lacks elite speed.

Hopkins has a rare combination of strong hands, body control and competitiveness. He measured in at 6-1, 215 pounds at the combine.

Charleston native Brandon Ford ran a 4.73 second 40 and posted a 37-inch vertical jump, both are above average for a tight end.

Jaron Brown ran a blazing 40 time of 4.4 seconds.

Berkeley High product Andre Ellington will not work out for scouts until March 29 as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
