Man charged in shooting death on Lindy Creek Road
Goose Creek police today charged a man in connection with the December 2012 shooting death of a 23-year-old man on Lindy Creek Road.
David Chavis, 43, was charged with murder this morning, Capt. John Grainger said. Police think he was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, he said.
Darrell R. Allen, of Goose Creek, was found dead inside a wrecked 2013 Nissan Altima.
Neighbors spotted the vehicle partially in a ditch outside a vacant home about 1 a.m. inside the Beverly Hills subdivision, police said.
Investigators found Allen lying on the passenger side floor with his head under the dashboard, a police report states.
The vehicle smelled of marijuana and a bag with a white powder was found lying outside the vehicle, according to the report.
Chavis initially was charged with possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony after he walked into the lobby of the police station with a gunshot wound to his right arm hours after Allen was killed, police said.
He is being held at the Berkeley County jail pending a bond hearing.
