Cruise line making call in Charleston
Cruise ship P&O Oriana is stopping in Charleston today as one of the last destinations in its monthlong Transatlantic travel.
The 1,800-passenger pleasure vessel is in the midst of a 35-night Caribbean and Transatlantic cruise that started in Southampton England on Feb. 11.
The ship is expected to be in Charleston about 5 p.m. today and depart early Friday evening, according to Allison Skipper, a spokeswoman for State Ports Authority.
Skipper added that the ship’s passengers are being invited to landside tours coordinated by Charleston Convention and Group Services, Inc.
Charleston marks the last port-of-call in North America for Oriana, which is scheduled to stop in Azores before returning to Southampton on March 18, according to cruisetimetables.com
The ship has also stopped at St Lucia, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, New Orleans and several points in Florida.
Oriana’s last time in Charleston was in October 2011, officials said.
