The Charleston Battery defeated Georgia Southern, 4-1, in a preseason match Tuesday night at Blackbaud Stadium.
The Battery got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Haviel Cordeves at the 10-minute mark. Reigning USL Pro rookie of the year Jose Cuevas found the back of the net in the 28th minute to make it 2-0.
Three minutes later, the Georgia Southern keeper misplayed the ball and it bounced over his head and into the net to make for a 3-0 lead.
Georgia Southern finally broke through in the 50th minute, but the Battery answered on Gibson Bardsley in the 61st minute.
The Charleston Battery, which are 3-0 during the preseason, will face Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m. on Thursday night at Blackbaud Stadium.
All preseason home games are free except the Battery’s match against the Wilmington Hammerheads on March 23. Tickets for this rematch of the 2012 USL PRO Championship game will be $7 for bleacher seats and $12 for club seats.
