As part of the 15th annual National Consumer Protection Week, the S.C. Department of Consumer Affairs is holding a free document shredding event Thursday in North Charleston.

The state agency, Shred 360 and Cintas Document Management are offering the service at the Charleston Area Convention Center from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Consumers are asked to limit their materials to no more than five boxes. The department also said the free service is popular and that the lines could be lengthy.

Other shredding events are scheduled for Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Legends in Concert in Myrtle Beach and at Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill.
