The pedestrian who was killed near Harleyville on Monday was sitting in the road, according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet.

Joseph Fields, 54, of Harleyville, was sitting on Second Bend Road when he was struck shortly before 5 p.m. and killed immediately, Nisbet said.

Toxicology test results will be sent to the State Law Enforcement Division to see if Fields was intoxicated, Nisbet said.

No charges will be filed against the 72-year-old driver, according to the Highway Patrol.
