The Citadel senior Mike Groselle has been named the Southern Conference basketball player of the week after averaging 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games during the final week of the regular season.
Groselle, a 6-8 center, also won the award during the season’s first week and is one of just three SoCon players to win multiple player of the week awards this season. Davidson’s Jake Cohen won three, and Elon’s Lucas Troutman also won two.
Groselle posted his 27th career double-double in a win over Furman with a game-high 24 points and pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds. He followed that performance with team highs in points (17) and rebounds (seven) in a loss at Wofford.
The Plano, Texas, native made 57 percent (16-of-28) of his field goal attempts last week, shot 75 percent from the free throw line and added six steals in two games. Groselle leads the Southern Conference in field goal percentage (.573) and ranks third in rebounds (7.7 rpg). He is the only player in the SoCon to average at least three offensive rebounds per game (3.1).
The Citadel (8-21, 5-13) faces Western Carolina (13-18, 9-9) in the first round of the SoCon Tournament at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Asheville.
