Citadel athletes collected five awards from the Southern Conference today including three in baseball, one in basketball and one in wrestling.
Senior Mike Groselle won the SoCon’s final player of the week award in basketball, after averaging 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last week. The 6-8 center also won the first player of the week award for the 2012-13 season, and is just one of three players to win the award more than once this season, joining Davidson’s Jake Cohen (three) and Elon’s Lucas Troutman (two).
• Outfielder Tyler Griffin and pitcher Austin Pritcher were named the SoCon’s baseball player and pitcher of the month, respectively, for February. Griffin, a junior from Gainesville, Fla., batted .429 with four home runs and 12 runs batted-in for the month. For the season, he’s hitting .404 with 16 RBI.
Pritcher, a senior from James Island, did not allow an earned run in 13 innings over two starts in February. For the season, he’s 2-0 with a 0.00 earned-run average.
• Outfielder Drew DeKerlegand was named SoCon baseball player of the week after batting .643 as the Bulldogs won three of five games. He was 9 of 14 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, eight runs scored and five RBI.
• Finally, wrestler Odie Delaney earned his second straight SoCon wrestler of the month award. Delaney, a redshirt senior, earned four pins while running his win streak to 14 straight matches. He will attempt to come the first Citadel wrestler to win four SoCon titles at the league championships Saturday at VMI.
