Local musician booked on criminal sexual conduct charges

Mount Pleasant police this morning arrested a local musician on criminal sexual conduct charges.

Singer-songwriter John Brannen, 60, was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of committing a lewd act on a child under 14, jail records show.

According to the rock artist’s website, Brannen was born in Savannah but grew up in Charleston.

Brannen has been signed with Mercury Records, out of Nashville, and Sly Dog, out of Detroit, according to his website.

Brannen is being held at the Charleston County jail.
