Science Club at Haut Gap Middle wins regional Science Bowl competition, advances to nationals
The Science Club at Haut Gap Middle School on Johns Island won the regional Carolina Middle School Science Bowl on Saturday and will advance to the national competition next month.
The Science Bowl is an annual contest sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Fourteen middle-school teams from North Carolina and South Carolina gathered in Raleigh, N.C., this past weekend for it. Haut Gap’s Science Club will travel to Washington, D.C., for the finals.
The competition requires student teams to answer questions in science and math.
The club is sponsored by teachers Melissa Core and Mary Moore, who helped students do fundraising to cover the cost of the trip.
