CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A Conway man charged with murder in the death of a Coastal Carolina University is staying behind bars after a bond hearing.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported (http://bit.ly/WBAtZW) that Judge Aaron C. Butler denied bond Sunday for 20-year-old Marquis Spencer McDonald. McDonald’s initial hearing is scheduled for April 26.

McDonald is charged with murder in the death of 19-year-old Anthony Liddell, a sophomore at Coastal from Bennettsville.

Liddell was shot in the chest Tuesday night in a parking lot.

McDonald appeared at the hearing without an attorney. He told the judge that Liddell was one of his best friends and that Liddell saved his life.
