Keenan ends Bishops’ reign as state champs
BY PHILIP M. BOWMAN
COLUMBIA--Keenan ended Bishop England’s reign as Class AA state champ with a 46-41 victory in front of about 7,000 fans at the Colonial Life Arena.
Michel Boykin, who was injred laste in the game, led the Bishops with 15 points. But the Bishops seemed out of step even with her in the lineup. They hit only 29 percent from the field, only 67 percent from the charity stripe and turned the ball over 20 times. The Bishops feasted on fundamentals all year but struggled when Keenan turned the heat up.
The Bishops led 22-15 at halftime, but Keenan coach Reggie Mclain made an adjustment that doomed the Bishops.
The Raiders came out in a halfcourt man-to-man defense that frustrated the Bishops.
Keira Robinson, the Class AA player of the year, went 0-for-8 from the field in the first half, but recovered to score a game-high 17 points. She hit only 2-of-15 from the field but connected on 12- of-14 from the foul line. The Vikings outscored the Bishops 22-12 from the line.
