Citadel tops Pitt, 8-0, in college baseball

Austin Pritcher threw five shutout innings and Drew DeKerlegand paced a 12-hit attack with a first-inning home run as The Citadel blanked Pitt, 8-0, today in college baseball at Riley Park.

The 5-4 Bulldogs, who snapped a three-game skid, face Virginia Commonwealth at 4 p.m. Saturday on the second day of the Charleston Crab House Shootout.

Pritcher (2-0) allowed five hits and three walks while striking out four, and has not allowed an earned run at Riley Park in his last 37 1/3 innings. DeKerlegand was 3 for 3 and scored three times, and Joe Jackson also had three hits.

The Citadel scored five times in the fifth, as Mason Davis, DeKerlegand and Jackson all singled. Bo Thompson hit a sacrifice fly and Tyler Griffin added a two-run single. Bailey Rush singled and Johnathan Stokes doubled to push the lead to 6-0 against Pitt (5-2), which began the day at No. 1 in the RPI rankings at warrennolan.com
