In final home game, Mike Groselle leads Citadel to 68-57 win over Furman

Mike Groselle gave the home crowd at McAlister Field House one more game to remember tonight, racking up his 27th career double-double in The Citadel’s 68-57 victory over Furman.

In his final home game, the 6-8 senior scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and even stole the ball six times as The Citadel improved to 8-20 overall and 5-12 in Southern Conference basketball.

The Paladins, with only seven healthy players, lost their ninth straight to fall to 6-22 and 3-14.

Furman trailed by 13 early in the second half before slicing the lead to two at 48-46. Groselle scored eight points during an 18-8 Citadel run in the final seven minutes.

P.J. Horgan and Dylen Setzekorn added 11 each for The Citadel. Marshall Harris had nine assists and Rae Robinson eight.

Larry Wideman led Furman with 17 points.

A couple of late 3-pointers by Setzekorn helped the Bulldogs to a 30-22 lead at intermission. The depleted Paladins shot 28.6 percent in the first half. Four Furman starters played the full 20 minutes, and the fifth got 19.

The Citadel ends the regular season Saturday at Wofford, and will be gunning for its first season sweep of the Terriers since 1956-57. Furman hosts College of Charleston on Saturday.
