Coroner’s Office identifies couple in murder-suicide on Kiawah Island

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified a Kiawah Island resident who shot his wife and then himself in a murder-suicide on Wednesday morning.

Thomas Reese, 77, and Barbara Reese, 84, of Forestay Court, both died of gunshot wounds, Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay said.

Deputies were dispatched to 78 Forestay Court shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday after a 911 call concerning a murder-suicide, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said.

Deputies entered through the home’s unlocked front door and found the couple lying in separate beds next to each other with gunshot wounds to the head, according to the incident report.

A revolver was found lying on Thomas Reese’s chest.

Thomas Reese was concerned about his wife’s quality of life if he died from his medical condition, deputies said.
