The church pastored by a Charleston County School Board member will have to pay the school district $655 for using a district building more time than its lease allowed.

Healing Ministries Baptist Church Center is led by board member Chris Collins, and the school board agreed 6-2 earlier this week not to waive the additional charge.

Collins abstained from the vote, and board members Tom Ducker and Elizabeth Moffly voted against the majority.

“I didn't think it was a fair decision,” Collins said. “I don't feel like they listened and understood. I'm not upset with anyone. We'll certainly comply.”

Healing Ministries Baptist Church is allowed to use the former Charlestowne Academy building on Rivers Avenue for 16 hours per month. Records show the church spent nearly 16 additional hours in the space during December and January and owed $655.
