Charleston Southern scored six times in the first inning, then held off a Citadel rally for a 7-6 victory in college baseball today at Buccaneer Field.

The Bucs improved to 5-3, while The Citadel dropped its third straight to fall to 4-4.

CSU hit two home runs in the first, a solo shot by Bobby Ison and a three-run blast from Robbie Streett.

The Citadel came back with four runs in the sixth, with an RBI double by Drew DeKerlegand and a two-run single from Johnathan Stokes to cut CSU’s lead to 7-5.

Three walks and a wild pitch helped the Bulldogs get within 7-6 in the seventh, but The Citadel failed to capitalize with runners and second and third with one out.

CSU starter Tory Schroff (2-0) allowed four hits and seven strikeouts over five innings, and Austin Weekley worked the ninth to earn the save.

The Bulldogs and Bucs play a three-game series March 22-24, with the first and third games at Riley Park.
