Port of Charleston lands new weekly shipping service to Asia
A French-owned shipping line is bringing 52 container vessels to the Port of Charleston a year under a new weekly service.
CMA CGM will add Charleston to its Pacific Express 3 service in mid-April, providing an additional connection to ports across Asia.
The first ship in the service will be CMA CGM Florida, which can carry the equivalent of 5,095 20-foot-long containers. It will call at the North Charleston Terminal.
The State Ports Authority noted that Charleston is the last U.S. outbound stop on the service, “highlighting the port’s strategic role for exports to growing consumption markets in Asia.”
Ports in the rotation include Hong Kong, Chiwan, Ningbo and Shanghai, China; Busan, South Korea; and Punta Manzanillo, Panama.
CMA CGM is existing customer of the SPA.
