The Citadel’s scheduled baseball game today with UNC Asheville was postponed on Monday due to impending rain.
The game will be made up as part of this weekend’s Charleston Crab House Shootout at Riley Park. The Citadel faces Pittsburgh on Friday and VCU on Saturday, both at 4 p.m., and plays UNC Asheville in a doubleheader Sunday.
After hitting three home runs against North Florida on Saturday, Bulldogs right fielder Tyler Griffin was honored as one of three national hitters of the week by Collegiate Baseball.The junior shared the award with Marcus Davis of Florida State and Charlie White of Maryland after going 8 for 17 (.471) with nine RBIs.
The Bulldogs (4-3) host Charleston Southern (4-3) at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Host College of Charleston’s sailing team went 8-4 over two days of racing to place third at the Bob Bavier Team Race regatta over the weekend on Charleston Harbor. The Cougars went 7-2 after the first day to reach the final four.
The Cougars’ rotation included All-American Mac Mace with crew Cory DeCollibus and Sarah Somes. All-American Ben Spector teamed with crew Ali Blumenthal and Jeff Aschieris, while Chris Banholzer sailed with crew Seppie McAdams, a Wando graduate, and Brooks Clark.
The Cougars beat Stanford, but fell to first-place Georgetown (10-2) and second-place Yale (10-2).
Charleston competes in four regattas this weekend.
College of Charleston pitcher Hope Klicker was named the Southern Conference softball pitcher of the week.
The sophomore went 2-0 in two appearances last week for the Cougars (6-3). The lefty had a 0.50 ERA after allowing one run in 14 innings. Klicker allowed only seven hits and no walks, while striking out 22.
The Cougars host No. 4 Tennessee at 3 p.m. Thursday at Patriots Point.
The Charleston Battery kick off a nine-game preseason soccer schedule against College of Charleston at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant.
The Battery’s USL Pro season opener will be April 20 against Antigua Barracuda FC at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island.
All preseason home games are free to attend except for the March 23 game against the Wilmington Hammerheads. Tickets for that game are $7 for bleacher seats and $12 for club seats.
