North Charleston police make arrest in road rage shooting

North Charleston police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a road rage shooting on Interstate 26 that took place on Valentines’s Day.

Armond Jesus Bannister of Brookstone Way in Summerville surrendered to detectives shortly before noon today, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. Bannister admitted being involved with the incident, he said.

Bannister is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Pryor said.

He is expected to have a bail hearing this evening.

The 51-year-old victim told police he was driving along I-26 when a Dodge Charger cut him off. The victim then returned the favor by cutting off the Charger, prompting the Charger’s driver to get up close behind him, according to a police report.

The victim applied his brakes to keep the Charger from driving too close. The driver of the Charger then pulled alongside the victim, rolled down his window and fired two shots from a pistol, according to a police report.

One of the rounds hit the roof of the victim’s vehicle on the passenger side and the other shattered the passenger’s window, police said.

The victim had small cuts to his face, but he did not require medical attention, police said. He was able to provide officers with the license plate number of the other car, a report stated.
